Dave's DVD Ripping Guide
DVD Ripping on Mac OS X
Part One

Programs required for this section:
  • DVD Backup
This tutorial is meant to educate you on how to make legitimate backups of DVDs you own.

Feedback is always welcome, see the "maintained by" link at bottom of page for my email address.

    1. Insert DVD
    2. Allow DVD Player to begin playing disc. Manually start DVD Player if necessary. This step is critical, please do not be tempted to skip it.
    3. Quit DVD Player
    4. Launch DVD Backup, you will see this window:

    5. The default settings will be checked and can typically be left as they are.
    6. Click on the "Add DVD Files..." button. Navigate to the DVD you wish to backup and move into the VIDEO_TS folder. You'll see this window:

    7. Select all (⌘ A) of the files in the VIDEO_TS folder and click the Open button. You will be returned to the main DVD Backup window.

    8. Click the "Process Files" button, the following dialog will appear:

    9. Navigate to the location you wish to save to. I've found the Desktop is the easiest as it is easiest to navigate to. Name the folder to Save To "VIDEO_TS", this is important as the DVD Imager software we'll use requires the source folder to be named "VIDEO_TS".

    10. The program will begin processing files. Nothing to do now but wait.

    Part Two is available here.
